The photograph attached was taken by the crew on board the Columbia during its last mission, on a cloudless day. The picture is of Europe and Africa when the sun is setting. Half of the picture is in night. The bright dots you see are the cities’ lights. Note that the lights are already on in Holland, Paris, and Barcelona and that’s it’s still daylight in Dublin, London, Lisbon and Madrid.

the world amazes me










I had a friend in Paris when I lived in Brittany (the protuberance west of France) quite a few years ago, and I remember chatting online with her and being like “oh the sun’s about to set, winter sucks man” and she answered “huh, it’s been dark for a while, what.” And then we exclaimed: HOLY SMOKES THE EARTH IS ROUND.
Exactly like on the picture, except with 16 year-old geeks.
